Race Day Weather Forecast
Last Updated: 3/31/2026
We are anticipating colder and possibly wet running conditions for the 2026 Early Bird Run. Race start temperatures are anticipated to be in the high 20s/ low 30’s with windchill and only rising into the high 30’s later during and after the race. Winds are anticipated to be consistently in the mid to high teens with gusts over 25 mph. It’s looking overcast throughout the morning. Click here for a current weather forecast.
Here are a few notes about running in cold, wet, and windy weather and how to best prepare for race day.
How to prepare for cold, wet, and windy weather on race day?
- Stick to Your Start Line Parking Plan: We are counting on all runners to use their assigned parking area listed in your pre-race emails and on your race packet. This will help to ensure we have enough parking in all areas.
- Choose Clothing Layers: Follow the weather forecast and and be prepared with your layers. Think about your warm running layers, but also the layers you will wear before the race and those that you want access to after the race. Choose synthetic base layers over cotton, and plan to have a wind layer, insulating layer and running hat and gloves for warmth and ear and hand protection. Protip: Remember, you can wear discardable layers and even a trash bag right up until the start of the race and shed them at race start time or shortly after. Shedded layers will be collected and donated.
- Plan Your Checked Bag: Have a plan for your gear check bag. Remember, you can send ahead dry layers to the finish line using the race’s bag check and bag claim system. You will receive your gear check bag at packet pickup.
- Stay Hydrated: Stay hydrated in the day’s leading up to the race. Then on race day, obey your thirst and drink when your mouth is dry and when you feel the need to drink. Take advantage of the aid stations and take in water and electrolyte replacement drinks on the course and at the finish line.
- Nutrition: Nutrition plays an important role in cool/cold weather. Have a plan for before, during, and after the race. Bring energy gels for during the race.
- Course Medical Resources: In the event of an emergency, dial 911. Medical resources and assistance are available at the race’s start, finish, and roving around the course. Ask a course monitor or aid station worker for assistance. If you need assistance, please notify the nearest medical personnel or event volunteer.
What if Early Bird is ever delayed or canceled due to lightning or other dangerous weather?
- Early Bird can be held in most weather conditions.
- That being said, in the event of dangerous or life threatening conditions, there is always the chance the event may be delayed, altered, canceled prior to starting, or canceled after starting. As always, we will make make decisions based on the safety of runners, spectators, volunteers and the community as a whole.
- Should the race be altered, delayed or canceled, we will be in communication with athletes via email, text, social media, event website, in-person announcements from race officials and/or a combination of these channels.
